When it comes to gaming accessories, one of the most important decisions to make is what headset to pick, and the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3 is a fantastic mid-budget selection that reminds you that having a wired headset isn’t too bad after all.

A simple design while also being lightweight and comfortable, with a massive range of audio settings to flip through, the Arctis Nova 3 is a headset that can do it all. As soon as you remove the Nova 3 from its bright orange box, you’ve got the headset, a USB-C cable, USB-C to USB-A adaptor and a 3.5mm adaptor for Xbox controller (and some free stickers).

While the Arctis Nova 3 might just look like a simple all-black headset on first glance, both sides have stunning customisable LED lights circling the earcups – if it doesn’t light up, is it even for gaming? The Nova 3 weighs in at 253 grams, which compared to some headsets feels like you’re wearing nothing at all.

The earcups are as comfortable as putting on a pair of sweatpants after a long day at work thanks to SteelSeries’ AirWeave Memory Foam, which provides weightless comfort for six hours-plus of constant gaming. Complimented alongside the earcups is the internal adjustable elastic band, which not only provides a secure feeling on your head, but is also great for those with a Walter White hairstyle. On top of this, The Arctis Nova 3 has four points of adjustability, making this a true one-size-fits-all headset.

On its lefthand side, the Arctis Nova 3 is equipped with the fully retractable ClearCast Gen 2 noise cancelling microphone that effortlessly retracts back into the headset like a well-made kitchen drawer. A nice little touch is that the end of the microphone has a small LED light on it, so should you be playing with no light around, you can see where your mic is positioned.

The Arctis Nova 3 also has quick controls housed at the bottom of the earcups that allow you to quickly mute your microphone, turn off the LEDs (but why would you want to do that?!) and control the volume of the headset.

Setup is a simple matter of just plugging one end of your USB-C cable into your headset, and the other into the device of your choice (PC/PlayStation/phone). If you’ve already exhausted your USB-C slots on your devices, thankfully that USB-A adaptor is there. If you’re playing on Xbox, simply swap the cable to the 3.5mm jack and plug it straight into your controller (the only functionality that you’ll lose is the RGB lights).

“A nice little touch is that the end of the microphone has a small LED light on it…”

The Arctis Nova 3 is also compatible with Sonar thanks to the SteelSeries GG software on PC. This is where you can customise how your headset works, control specific audio details such as chat to game volume preferences, and how loud your microphone is. What’s great with this is that there are already pre-programmed settings for specific games such as Rainbow Six Siege, Forza, Apex Legends, and even movies and music.

We tried out a variety of different games from Gotham Knights to F1 22, and even tested the Arctis Nova 3 with some horror movies (it is October after all) and the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3 provided fantastic sound. With its quick access controls, a retractable microphone, and in-depth audio equalizer for enhanced gaming immersion you’ll forget that this headset is wired – you might also forget you’re wearing it too with how light and comfortable it is!

If you’re looking for a mid-range gaming headset that really can do it all, check out the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3. Releasing October 30, you can pre-order now at JB Hi-Fi.
