SHERBURN — Sherburn City Council met Monday evening and one of the approved matters was to renew the contract with Waste Management for three years with a regular rate for one year and a 4 percent raise for the next two years. Customer service was the deciding factor since the rates for others was approximately the same.

The engineering part of Bolton and Menk was represented by Derek Behrens and Travis Winter to report on the street project in Sherburn. The MN Department of Transportation (MnDOT) grant was approved this week so the funding is underway. The progress is amazing with 10 blocks done in three months since the weather has cooperated.

Utility is in and curb and gutter may be started this week and also the storm sewer, then sidewalks and driveways will be done after that. The culvert on Lynn Street will be reinforced concrete. With concrete work in the horizon they also reminded the council that below zero temps would mean no concrete work done. Minnesota Paving Materials will pave the street in the spring. The engineers and the council members remarked that the home owners have praised the team working on the Osborne Street project for their cooperation and good work. The engineers also reported that the wastewater treatment plant is progressing well and the main sewer line sewer has been re-lined.

The regular meeting had reports from the police and the police commission that will meet Oct. 18 to discuss the interview process for police chief.

The park has been winterized and leaf vacuuming is planned for Oct. 24 through Nov. 4.

One council member asked about a headset for the office so that calls could be answered more efficiently.

The next meeting of the Sherburn City Council is scheduled 5 p.m. on Nov. 7, at the city hall in Sherburn.
